Guide - Everlasting – Helichrysum Italicum EO

The Story :

The Italian Helichrysum is a plant of 30 to 50 cm that can be found on the Mediterranean coast, hungry for suns and arid soils. It is an emblematic plant of the region, with its beautiful small yellow gold flowers and silvery leaves. In Provence, it is sometimes called “curry grass”, because of its smell close to the spice of the same name.

Its name, Helichrysum Italicum, comes from the Greek helios, the sun, and from chrysos, the gold, in reference to its colour. The name “Italicum” comes from the first scientific writings concerning it and having described it initially in Italy.

The Italian Helichrysum is often called “Immortal”, because of the longevity of its flowers which, even when cut and dried, keep their brightness and beautiful gold colours. This appellation is also reflected in its many properties: Immortelle essential oil is firming, healing, antihaematoma, anticoagulant and promotes blood circulation.

However, this plant has been used and known for a long time, especially in Ancient Greece. It is found in Homer’s Odyssey, where Princess Nausicaa uses it as a youth elixir, praising its anti-aging merits already suspected at the time. Apollo is also sometimes depicted wearing an Immortal tiara, linking this divinity of art, beauty and healing to the virtues of this plant.

The Plant :

Italian Helichrysum is a small bush found in dry, hot and arid areas. Also known as Immortal, we carefully assemble its flowers from the two natural cradles of this plant, Corsica and Italy, in order to make the most of it. It is tested and selected for its superior quality and exceptional properties. Its small golden yellow flowers give off a warm and heady woody scent, reminiscent of curry.

Uses :

In infusion: For its soothing and relaxing properties. It also has detoxifying properties.

To do this, mix 3 to 4 drops in a litre of warm, non-boiling water. Indeed, water that is too hot tends to evaporate the essential oil too quickly and could also degrade the essential oil and its components, making it less effective. It is important to dilute the essential oil in honey or on a sugar cube which you will then add in warm water, in order to unify the mixture. Once your preparation is done, you can enjoy your tea for a moment of relaxation, at any time of the day.

Atmospheric diffusion: To clean and purify the atmosphere of your home, but also to create a floral atmosphere and thus perfume a room.

Depending on the diffusers and the size of the room, pour between 5 and 30 drops, and allow 30 minutes for a large room and about 15 minutes for a bedroom. In all cases, comply with the instructions for the device used.

In cosmetics: In particular, it soothes and relieves joint pain, stimulates blood circulation and, above all, reduces and promotes the healing of bruises and blows.

Immortelle essential oil is used very diluted in a rich vegetable oil to provide a soothing massage. Pour 4 drops of essential oil for 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil of your choice and massage gently into the area concerned.
